On this International Women’s Day, I find myself on a journey of personal reflection and redefining my notion of what a successful woman looks like. As a young girl, growing up in a small town in Kenya, I believed success meant becoming a well-educated and elegant woman. Somehow, I think I achieved that.
Then I believed success meant having a high-flying career — speaking at conferences, sitting at tables with powerful people, traveling the world, and yes, traveling business class. I experienced all of that too and have been blessed to travel far and wide.
Yet the whole time, I already had everything I truly needed.
I was married to the love of my life — a gift from God since my youth. I have two boys that I love to pieces.
But above all, I have a Father who loves me beyond measure — my Father in heaven — and the Lord Jesus who saved me from my lostness and opened my eyes to His love for me.
So, what is a successful woman to me?
The most successful woman I can be is one who walks humbly with God and rests fully in His love. And in that surrender, I have found my greatest success!
